How the New Uniden R7 Handles MultaRadar MRCD & MRCT Speed Cameras

Does the new Uniden R7 measure up to the challenge?

The new Uniden R7 has the ability to detect MultaRadar photo enforcement speed cameras when enabled in the configuration menu. We’ve tested a number of different radar detectors with these very hard to detect forms of K-band radar with varying degrees of success.

So, when we received one of a handful or pre-release Uniden R7s, we were interested to see how well the Uniden R7 actually did when faced with one of these systems. We selected one particular location that is especially challenging on radar detectors that are claimed to detect MRCT & MRCD because not only are there two systems (each facing different directions) but they are straddled by two K-band speed signs.

Brief Introduction

I’ve been driving with both the Uniden R3 & Uniden R1 radar detectors in preparation for my formal review and have some very telling police radar encounters.  Particularly noteworthy was several encounters with a couple of Pennsylvania state troopers who ran very low-powered K-band radar at night.

What makes the R3 & R1 especially good in these scenarios:

  • Both the R3 & R1 deliver extreme sensitivity (best we have ever experienced)
  • Quick to detect instant-on police radar
  • Quick to alert to instant-on police radar with minimal processing overhead
  • Very good signal ramp up and decay with excellent latch times
  • Very quick radar band signal differentiation
  • Very good filtering algorithms ensure most alerts are to genuine police radar

These real-world experiences were very telling of the incredible performance that both the R1 & R3 offer, so much so, that I felt it was appropriate to feature them in a new video tutorial highlighting the true value in driving with an ultra-high performance radar detector and how to properly use one when confronted with some very difficult to detect radar encounters.

After this introduction, we set out to find a complex operating speed trap to see if the new Escort Max 360 radar detector had the chops to deal with it and we got lucky finding one.

I’m very pleased to say, we weren’t disappointed with the performance of the Escort Max 360.

While it’s still very early, I think the time is soon  coming (if it’s not already here) that the sheer performance potential of Escort’s new M6 dual front and rear facing antenna platform–that the Escort Max 360 uses–is going exceed that of the platforms that have preceded it.
