Best radar detector reviews 2021: what are the top radar detectors for beating a speeding ticket?
Updated: 1-6-2021 by Veil Guy
Despite COVID-19 and the subsequent lock-down of our economy, the radar detector manufacturers continue to continue to crank out, ever better radar detectors. Just in the first six months, drivers have been presented with two new appetizing radar detectors. As this pandemic rolls on into 2021, I suspect people will continue to travel by cars than airplanes and after a long lull, police appear to be issuing tickets to speeders with greater frequency, perhaps to make a short-falls in municipal budgets.
Cobra DualPro 360 Review
Our testing and review leads us to believe that the Cobra DualPro 360 is simply the best on the market, for the money
We first saw the Cobra DualPro 360 when we had visited Cobra’s parent company at their Chicago office. We visited them to hear about and discuss their up-and-coming products at the time, the Cobra Dual Pro 360 and the Cobra Road Scout. The Cobra team also laid out their strategy for 2019.
At the time we felt the challenge for Cobra was going to be overcoming image of the Cobra brand among the radar detector enthusiast community, whose perception is that Cobra radar detectors are not top-tier. Historically, that may have been the case, but no longer and it’s certainly not the case with these two new Cobra detectors. Indeed, we had noted that Cobra did start producing an upscale detector, their first DSP model, the Cobra DSP-9200BT, some three years ago and that it did offer good performance.
Cobra Road Scout Review
The Cobra Road Scout leads me to ask, why don’t all radar detectors have an integrated dash cam?
We first saw the new Cobra Road Scout at Cobra’s headquarters in Chicago, seven months ago. When Cobra’s executives described their new design, we were skeptical at first. But when the Cobra team actually showed us the Cobra Road Scout in person, we had a change of heart not only by the concept, but by the Cobra Road Scout’s novel design.
You see, the Cobra Road Scout is the first device of its kind–a combination dash cam and radar detector, all-in-one.
Uniden R7 Review: Veil Guy Reviews Uniden’s Best Radar Detector
The new Uniden R7 Reigns Supreme in Performance

Veil Guy’s Uniden R7 Review
Introduction to the Uniden R7 Review
In the Spring of 2017, Uniden took the radar detector industry by storm with the introduction of two class-leading radar detectors, the Uniden R3 and the Uniden R1. These two radar detectors quickly established themselves as performance leaders and became big sellers, particularly the Uniden R3.
Fast forward two years, Uniden has upped their game with the introduction of the Uniden R7, a GPS-enabled, dual antenna radar detector with arrows, following in the footsteps of the Valentine 1, the Escort Max 360 (now discontinued), and the Escort Max 360c. While the V1 was the first directional radar detector, it has remained relatively unchanged in its 28 years and does not incorporate GPS. The Uniden R7 is closer to the Escort Max 360c since that detector is also GPS-enabled.
Uniden R7 versus MultaRadar MRCT/MRCT Photo Enforcement Speed Cameras
Does the new Uniden R7 measure up to the challenge?
The new Uniden R7 has the ability to detect MultaRadar photo enforcement speed cameras when enabled in the configuration menu. We’ve tested a number of different radar detectors with these very hard to detect forms of K-band radar with varying degrees of success.
So, when we received one of a handful or pre-release Uniden R7s, we were interested to see how well the Uniden R7 actually did when faced with one of these systems. We selected one particular location that is especially challenging on radar detectors that are claimed to detect MRCT & MRCD because not only are there two systems (each facing different directions) but they are straddled by two K-band speed signs.

Uniden R7 Radar Detector is Uniden’s answer to the Escort Max 360 & Valentine 1
The Uniden R7 radar detector is Uniden’s answer to the Valentine One and Escort Max 360 and will soon be available to those looking for a sensitive gps-enabled dual antenna high performance radar detector with arrows. Unlike the Uniden R3 and Uniden DFR9 radar detectors, at least for the moment, the GPS-enabled Uniden R7 will not be available in a non-gps variant.
Best radar detector reviews 2019 of the best radar detectors ranked by VeilGuy
Best radar detector reviews of the best radar detectors for 2019 from Escort, Radenso, Uniden, Valentine, and Whistler.
Radar detectors continue facing more difficult challenges on the road in 2019. The best radar detector used to be considered to be one that was the most sensitive and alerted to police radar from the farthest distance but this hasn’t been the case for some time now. The best radar detectors today offer plenty of radar detection and alerting range and selecting one solely on the basis of range and sensitivity to police radar is not something that I would recommend as there are other aspects of performance that matter equally much of which will be mentioned below.
Whistler CR-97 Review
The Whistler CR97 does something cool that you won’t find with any other radar detector.
Whistler CR97 Review

Introduction to the Whistler CR97
We have been anticipating the new Whistler CR97 for some time and after driving with this new radar detector for more than 12,000 miles–more than any other detector prior to its public release–it was certainly worth that wait.
For those that have followed me over the last 14 years, you know that I hold Whistler in high regard for consistently producing radar detectors that offer very good performance for a great value. I am pleased to report that the new Whistler CR97 provides an incremental improvement that is greater than any model introduction that has preceded it.

Uniden easily puts two more home runs on the board

Unless you have been living on Mars and haven’t had an Internet connection back to Earth you already know the Uniden has taken the radar detector industry by storm last year with the release of their top of the line models, the Uniden R3 and Uniden R1. Both of these radar detectors have shaken up the industry in a big way and Uniden, all by themselves, have redefined what we all thought was achievable in radar detection performance and filtering.

UPDATE: Read our updated rankings for 2020/2021.
Radar detectors have been around a long time, nearly 40 years, and for much of that time the best radar detector was considered to be one that was the most sensitive and alerted to police radar from the farthest distance. A lot has changed in both the best radar detectors and traffic enforcement industries and today as we approach Christmas of 2018, the RF landscape continues to deteriorate, becoming even more challenging for a radar detector to function well. Now more than ever, the best radar detectors have to successfully balance two opposing dynamics: filtering (signal rejection) and sensitivity.
